Re: Ethan Ampadu off to Chelsea

I think these top end Premier League clubs regard their youth development as a separate business to their first team. Buy up all the youth and it doesn't matter if they don't progress with them, there's plenty of money to be made in selling players on even if it's to lower league clubs. There's also the certainty that whilst they are signed up nobody else can have them so there is no threat. Man U and Chelsea losing players like Drogba and Lukaku illustrate the lack of faith these clubs have in their own youth.

Whilst having a look at this link http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/footba...ester-10911729 on the David Wheeler thread, I couldn't help notice this...

Tottenham to raid Crewe for youngster

Tottenham have told Crewe to name their price for the latest sensation off the Crewe conveyer belt, George Nunn,15. The 6ft 1in striker, who has broken into
the club’s under 18 development side, caught the eye of Spurs coaches in a game between the two clubs with a hat-trick.

Spurs returned from the match at the League Two side’s training ground with rave reports about the newest addition to the ranks of top players who have come
    through Crewe’s renowned youth system.

Now Tottenham are ready to enter talks with Crewe over Nunn who is tipped to follow in the footsteps of former Alexandra graduates like Rob Jones, Danny
Murphy, Dean Ashton and Seth Johnson who have gone on to gain international honours.

It will need a hefty compensation packet to snap up Nunn who is also bound to attract the interest of other Premier League clubs.

I see they too are going to face a hefty compensation package, it will be interesting to see how Tottenham fair in their pillaging of Crewe's youth system. I am aware that young Ethan was out of contract so there might be a difference.

If Nunn is 15 then he can't have been on anything other than a schoolboy contract as you can't sign a professional contract until you're 16, or so I believe. He'd be on the same contract as Ampadu was under?

But Ampadu was at the end of his youth agreement and was offered a pro contract, or so we are led to believe. A very different scenario, which is why if no agreement can be reached between the two clubs, a tribunal will be necessary.

If that's the case then it points to some very underhand and devious dealings by young Ethan or his advisors, why try and ensure that the club that has nurtured you gets the worst possible deal available?

Nope. I actually think Ethan has done the most sensible, and fairest, thing all round.

He could have signed for Chelsea in May, whereby we'd have been compensated under FPP (or whatever it's called) to the tune of about 70k, give or take. Instead, he's allowed his contract to run down, meaning he is no longer covered under FPP, he's now just an out of contract youngster, so we'll be compensated under the tribunal system if we cannot come to an agreement with Chelsea. In addition, by not signing a longer term deal, it means he will not be held to ransom over the move at any point.

He seems quite switched on, TBH.

Nunn probably signed a scholarship agreement at 14 which means he is not available under the EPPP's fixed compensation structure. Ampadu was offered a similar deal but did not sign it (although I seem to remember it was wrongly reported he had). If he had moved to Chelsea a week earlier it would have been for a fixed contract, however he waited until the day after he stopped being an academy player in the eyes of EPPP. As such, Ampadu became a player under 24 who had been offered a deal but had not signed it so i think he leaves in the same way Troy and Dunne did - with us getting compensation based on a tribunal. The downside is that in the past the tribunals have awarded disappointing fees for young players as they tend to reward for things done rather than things that might be done (John Bostock is the one that springs to mind)

This post needs regularly repeating in here, as it's fairly concise and tells us the situation.

The Ampadu's have done their best to get it to go to a Tribunal, so they certainly have done what we wanted. If he'd signed the pro-contract we would have only been entitled the compensation package if he went.

Of course the Tribunal could be harsh on us, but in the end we've not got a lot to losee as the EPPP compensation package isn't that much, and we can't really think they'll give us less than that.

No,no,no,that's not the case at all. If he had signed for Chelsea while still at the academy stage then we would have got the piffling EPPP compensation. By leaving it until 1st July, when he was no longer governed by that, then we get the Tribunal fixed compensation as explained earlier in this thread. See Martin Lawrence's post at 245 of this thread.
