The Morning Star reporting that former Union leader Rodney Bickerstaff has died. One of the good guys.

Seen this tape many times. Prince's guitar break ; Harrison's lad in backround on accoustic guitar- spitting image of his dad. Nice.

Terry Downes - the "Paddington Express"
(Well, maybe some of the older aficionados of 'the Noble Art' will recall of whom I speak)

    Re: Obituary Thread

Yes G2K just seen his obituary in The Times.

    A tough cockney cookie.

World middleweight and light heavyweight boxing champion. Great reply after getting bashed up summat awful by D*ck Tiger * (IIRC) in a fight set up by Mickey Duff. When asked who he would like to fight next he replied: "That fuc*er who fixed up this fight"

Minor film/TV actor later. Loved him in the rather strange, surreal mid/late 1970's TV series "Gangsters" playing the guy with a voice box and saying "Oh sh*t !" through that voice box as he set fire to himself with a Molotov cocktail. Also Koukol the hunchback guard to the Count in the black comedy The Fearless Vampire Killers (1967). Reputed to have said he never got any decent roles as he could not talk proper.

    RIP Terry.

    * Why does the swear filter apply to this innocuous shortened name ?

Terry Downes , brings back memories.
**** Tiger was a cracker of a fighter too.
A lifetime ago that I used to get up in the middle of the night to listen to fights on the radio.
p.s Or should I say Richard.

Terry, had a pretty flat nose as I recall. I believe he learnt his trade while serving with the US marines. That's one Brit they treated with respect.

Which reminds me of an-old time former matelot who told me a Yank sailor told him they were warned about tangling with British "Jolly Jack Tars". "The globe isn't mostly pink because they're soft," he was told.

38 years old is no age at all and from the video it didn't look that bad a knock but you never know.

Sad. I loved his 'Sean's Show' whilst growing up as a teenager. Cirrhosis of the liver apparently. He consumed a lot of alcohol but gave it up a couple of years ago apparently although i don't know if he already had problems then or what.

Anyway, sad to be passing at age 51.
