More changes to the FA Cup

There have only been 3 replays against Premier League opposition. Man Utd definitely had a stronger team for the replay, and Everton's in 1999 was pretty strong too. Ferguson putting out a weaker side had nothing to with replay rules, only complacency.

More changes to the FA Cup

Agree with much of what has been said on this, it's a terrible idea and for no good reason at all. One other aspect that the Big Clubs can't even understand is the old tradition of being in the draw, after a draw (if you see what I mean). Because of a replay City were in the semi-final draw in...

    Gary Caldwell Apraisal

A fair appraisal would be to consider the alternative history: Caldwell is sacked in Dec/Jan, and a new manager has a clear mission: save City from the drop. He promises he will. His confidence lifts the players, the fans, the mood. New signings lift the mood too. Imagine that the team had then...

    Obituary Thread

One of the most exciting players to watch in the 1970s. Should have gone to the World Cup in 1982, but Wales stuffed up against Iceland and he missed out. Played at SJP in the 1980s near the end of his career, when Burnley had fallen to Div 4.

    Caldwell out?

If City get promoted next season, and win the FA Cup, the numbers saying "Out" will still be 25% or more. Inertia wins! Polls without a time frame are meaningless. The Tories are a popular government, if we count votes registered years ago as current opinion.

    League Two 23/24

The 3 promoted clubs are all backed by considerable personal wealth, certainly more than ECFC. And although nothing is certain, they seem to have a long-term focus, not just the "here today, gone tomorrow" chancers that some other clubs have been hurt by. People on here will say (whenever City...

    Caldwell out?

Brilliant. There's quite a few managers (not just City's) who would give a one word* response if you asked them to wear that (and it wouldn't be "Sure"). (*or 2 words if the second is "off" ...). #Caldwell in Inn

Exeweb's 2023/24 League One Table Prediction Thread

We all got shafted by Stevenage. Unless I missed it, no Exewebbers had them in the top half. Most of us said they'd be relegated, or just escape. (I don't know who "Matt SB (Sophie)" are, maybe SB means Stevenage Boro :)... nobody else had them above halfway.)

    Caldwell out?

We competed with Stevenage yesterday. You create straw men and ignore what people actually say, it's really tiresome.

    Caldwell out?

It's not "just accept" or being "scared". Stop putting words in people's mouths, you didn't even read what I said. City can compete. But anyone who talks about modern football and ignores financial doping is living in cloud-cuckoo land. Read the link I gave you. Read ... well, anything really.

    Caldwell out?

Whenever people say "the likes of", the list seems to be based on a simplistic assumption that if the town or the ground isn't very big, or a similar size to Exeter, then the football club must be at a similar financial level. That just isn't true. Being in League One doesn't mean equal...

    Caldwell out?

Most successful manager? Billy McDevitt, obviously. Look, it's a trophy! The Grecian Archive - 1934/35 All Results and information (exeter.ac.uk) Brian Godfrey and Paul Tisdale won squat ... ;)

    Caldwell out?

An excellent table for comparison, but on behalf of Brian Godfrey I feel obliged to point out that he has been awarded the wooden spoon that rightfully belongs to Gerry Francis ...

    Statistics and Club History

Following up (and jinxing the rest of the season!): if we work on the basis that in Div 3 (South) a regional 6th = national 12th, City have only finished in the top half of the 3rd tier a total of 5 times. Include all the ones Colesman Ballz mentions in the top 10, plus one more under Godfrey...
