AN EVENING OF GRECIAN MEMORIES FROM THE 1950s and 60s

All supporters are invited to attend an evening with Alan Banks and David Mitchell (son of Arnold) on Wednesday 20th April in the Apple Suite at 6pm for a 6.30pm start. There will be memories of Grecian events from the 50’s and 60’s, including the promotion winning season of 63/64, and David will be bringing numerous items of memorabilia relating to Arnold, most of which have not been made available before.

Arnold Mitchell joined Exeter City in July 1952, and went on to be a regular member of the team until leaving in 1966, making a club record 495 League appearances in the process. He played in every position, including 11 minutes in goal in a goaless draw at Southend in September 1954 when Geoff Morton was injured, but his favoured position was right half.

Alan Banks needs little introduction. Popular with all, Alan joined the club in October 1963 and made an immediate impact, with his 18 goals in that 63/64 team helping secure promotion. Apart from one season away, Alan was a regular in the side through to 1973. His best scoring season was 1970/71, when he scored 21 League goals, and he’s famous for his all action style and clinical finishing.

This event has been organised by the Senior Reds and is open to everyone. It is free for Senior Reds, but there will be a £1 charge for non members. David will also be saying a few words about dementia and its links to professional footballers, and we will be making a donation to a dementia charity of David’s choice.

This should be a fascinating evening of nostalgia, so please come along if you can.
