Hi everyone,

As most people who have read through will know, last night we accepted the resignation of Spanky as a result of a genuine mistake he made that confirmed the identify of an Exeweb member who wished to remain anonymous.

All involved in our group were unanimous in our acceptance of this and most of us felt it was the only option we could take at the time - despite us being good friends with Spanky and indeed being very appreciative of all he has done to clear up the boards recently.

It has since become clear that we have acted too harshly and too soon. The support of Spanky shown by users has sent us a clear message as to what you guys think of the situation. On top of that, Older Codger himself has asked us to reconsider.

Accepting Spanky's resignation (or any of us asking for it) was absolutely the last thing we wanted to do. Our intention in taking such decisive action was to send a clear signal to members that all of us take the privacy of users seriously. We do accept that there are users on Exeweb who have a genuine reason to wish to remain anonymous and we fundamentally support this. Although Spanky's mistake was a genuine error by a 'newbie' mod - we thought at the time the action taken was the only way we could demonstrate our commitment to upholding this.

With the benefit of hindsight, having slept on our decision, having taken into account the strong views from members (including Older-Codger) and having discussed at length today we accept that we were far too hasty and have all unanimously decided to ask Spanky to rejoin us on the steering committee.

Should Spanky wish to accept this offer then he will be immediately warmly welcomed back into the steering committee - but would not have moderation privileges returned until 1st February. Between now and then we will all work with the existing moderators to finalise our revised forum guidelines, devise a "Moderators Rulebook" setting out the rules we must apply to ourselves when moderating the site and we will also draft up a privacy policy which will set out how we will handle your data.

All of us live and breathe Exeweb right now. We are both enthusiastic and determined to make it work and on this occasion this passion, enthusiasm and deep involvement with Exeweb meant none of us stood back to think about the wider picture. We want Exeweb to survive and prosper so that Exeweb can be used for many years to come to discuss all things ECFC. Instead, today the focus has been on Exeweb itself and not on the club - and for that we're really sorry.

I sincerely hope we can all draw a line under this event and move on without dwelling too much on the outcome. To Spanky, we apologise - and we sincerely hope we can welcome back a friend in the not too distant future.

Thanks, in advance, for your support.

Lez

Firstly, thank you to the Exeweb hoards. The will of the people prevails.
Secondly, an even bigger thank you to Older Codger for his kind words and forgiveness.

Right then... where were we?!?!

Ah yes, I remember...
