Exeter City are Putting the finishing touches to a 5-Year plan they hope will deliver League One football by 2010.

Earlier this year the club , Under the guidance of managing directot Ian Huxham, commisioned an interim report to look how to move the club foward following the succesful conclusion of the CVA.

The report was desinged to help plan for the future and enable the club to progress following a succesful battle to shed all the debts.

A club Statement Said : The directors of Exeter City are co nsidering an interim report they commissioned into the future structure, and organisation of the club, which has emerged from the CVA, They asked the author to undertake an appraisal of all aspects of the work of the club with a view to creating one, three & five year plans that which will deliver the clubs vision of playing League One football by 2010.

The report is currently being reviewed by an independent volunteer with a back gound in such planning, Next week it will be put to the supporters trust's board of society for their views.

Citys vice chairman Julian Tagg said : Its an ongoing project that we have been working on for some time.

It is all about organising and planning for the future, and we have sought help from someone with considerable experience with this sort of thing.

The board of society will have a look at it next week and we plan to consult all parties within the football club right down to the fans before and changes are implemented.

We are aiming high and have already shown are ambition by getting rid of debts of 4.8m, Now it is all about what this club & region can achieve.
We aim to get Exeter City competing at the highest level we possibly can.

Will be interesting to know a few more details of this "plan" like:
"league 1 by 2010" are Flybe going to plough money left, right and centre into the club as they have been kind to us so far and they are a rapidly growing company? If we are going to be realistic about getting to league 1 by this time then we need a cash windfall to help with player wage budgets, transfer money etc..
just a thought....

I assume a large part of the plan relates to the club generating extra income for itself, to be able to realise this aim rather than relying on windfalls

I take umbrage with the comment; 'right down to the fans!'

How about asking the members who own the club lads!

Arrogant or what......however a step in the right direction if things are to be believed.

im glad that the club is setting plans for the future - but in all reality will we able to get to that Level of Football in 5 Years ?? -

Promotion 2005/6 Season ??

Survival 2006/7 Season ??

Then Push on again from there ??

It's not out of the question. Look what Doncaster and Yeovil achieved since they were promoted. Then there's Carlisle who, after years of languishing at the nether regions of Leage 2/Third Division/whatever they decide to call it now, are now well pushed for a playoff place. Indeed, it could be argued that relegation was one of the best things that happened to that club.

That said, Barnet and Shrewsbury aren't setting the world alight this season and Chester appear to be distinctly average. But get a club on the up and momentum can carry it forward.

I think it's certainly a laudable idea, and shows the board are thinking in the right direction, and hopefully this report will consider off-the-field aspects we need to improve to make us into a model professional League One club.

My biggest concern at this stage would be budgeting. Does this mean we're budgeting for L1 football for 2010? I'd rather we kept our budget low and considered any extra we made as a bonus than going boom or bust dependent on matters on the pitch.

Whether it will happen enough is another thing, and no doubt the report will be carefully scrutinised by a lot of Exewebbers to see exactly how realistic it is. But it is definitely a step in the right direction.

PS: Al, are you really saying you don't want Exeter to be playing in L1 come 2010?
