Sounds like the two best bids have won through ... not sure Europe should have 2 in a row or Brazil should have a WC then Olympics in 2 years ...

But will look at going though ... if City dont go in 2014 for a pre WC Centenary match ...

Not sure the WC / Olympics thing would be much of a burden - note USA '94 and Atlanta '96 (which in itself should be an advert for why the USA should NEVER get the Olympics again). However, against Madrid will be that a 2016 European Olympics would be the 3rd successive one (including Winter).

Burton vs City on the Friday night was a better sporting event, frankly.

The realisation there that commercialism had become just a bit too intrusive. I'm surprised Pepsi Cola didn't stop Michael Johnson mid-WR to get him to do a promo.

you see that's how wrong you are .. it was the Coca Cola Centennial Olympic park .. Atlanta is their home ..

Just because the coverage back here was bad and the british team failed to win more than one gold (although they did do well in terms of medal count, rather than medal table), that doesnt excuse the fact that while i was there, it remains the best sporting event i have ever been to .. and that includes Edgbaston Ashes, Commonwealth Games, Rugby World Cup ... and Burton/City (i know you mean the 2-0 rather than the 4-3)

Fair enough that first-hand experience trumps TV every time - it was noticeable however that Sydney (and subsequently) the commercialism has taken very much a back seat.

very much so .. and quite rightly ... dont get me wrong - if i was given a time travel machine and the funds again to do one or the other, it would be sydney 98 times out of 100 ... (Atlanta had some great rib places !!) but as I only went to one, it still remains my best trip...
