In light of the fact that Israeli Tennis Player Shahar Peer was refused a passport to take part in the Dubai tennis championships this week, the eye turns to the classic debate - should there be a clear line between Politics and Sport?

Larry Scott, the chief executive of the women's tennis tour, came close to cancelling this week's tournament in Dubai "on the spot"

It's a sad state of affairs, that a competitive athlete is denied the right to ply their trade purely because of their nationality.

The parallel was that the world was generally denied the chance to see a Cricket team that could have dominated world Cricket in the 70s, purely because their leaders pursued horrid policies. And again in Tennis, anyone who has seen the Iranian Mansour Bourami (sp?) in action in the Wimbledon Vets tournaments can't help but feel that his forced inaction due to his country not letting him play at his peak was Tennis' loss. Even in his 50s he was brilliant, and what a character!

Yeah right !

99% of "top class" sport is about the money and nowt else, see the Allen Stamford debacle, it has soured me to most sport but made me appreciate so much more the reality that is Exeter City.
