Just got back from a cold Christie Park - although I have been far colder at a match - where just 1,253 fans watched Morecambe beat Brentford 2-0 in what was an entertaining encounter.
.It is the lowest League crowd I have been in for many a year. 113 supporters made the journey from Brentford, and they received a deserved round of applause from the Morecambe fans when the number of travellers were announced.
Two mistakes undid Brentford, who were a good footballing side and quite pacey up front. They used both wide men to great effect.
The first goal after 22 minutes was netted by Michael Twiss who pounced on a misplaced header, and the second and deciding goal, almost on time, was scored by the hard working Rene Howe, when a cross from the impressive winger, Neil Wainwright, somehow deceived the Brentford keeper, leaving Howe to tap home from two yards.
Well worth the effort going. Morecambe are at home again next Tuesday evening to Lincoln City.
Hope to have a fuller match report on the Dark Rock Diaries blog later this evening.
