Also named top sporting venue in the world by 3500 Sporting fans (British natch):

Barclays survey names Seven Sporting Wonders of the World

Thursday, 29 January 2009

Wembley Stadium is the best sporting venue in the world, according to a survey by Barclays Spaces for Sports.

British sports fans voted five UK venues among the Seven Sporting Wonders of the World, along with Monaco’s Formula 1 street circuit and FC Barcelona’s Nou Camp.

More than 3,500 fans responded to the survey, citing atmosphere (84%), heritage (50%) and location (47%) as the main reasons behind their choice of sporting wonder.

Three-quarters of respondents also said they believed that sport benefits society and inspires people.

Barclays Seven Sporting Wonders of the World are:

Wembley Stadium 28%

All England Club, Wimbledon 12%

Monaco Formula 1 circuit 6%

Old Trafford football stadium 6%

Lord’s Cricket Ground 6%

Millennium Stadium 6%

FC Barclelona’s Nou Camp 5%

Have been to all 5 of the UK venues ... still think the event makes the venue though so am really looking forward to the World Athletics in Germany in August ...

Madison Square Gardens.
Yankee Stadium
The Bok Stadium in Pretoria ( can't remember its name, Loftus summat )
Galatasary's ground.
Flushing Meadow
Wherever Green Bay play when it is 20 below.

Sports stadia have been sanitised and Wembley is the worst example of it, the heart just gets ripped out of everywhere so some scrotes can make money, just think Hampden Park then and now.

Having said that the Boxheads done a brill job with their stadia for the WC, got the punters nearer the pitch and served them a beer in their seats then rip out the seats for league games, I believe the expression is :- Properrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr !
