Just watching MoTD and the highlights of the Manure/Sunderland game, why is Ronaldo playing, he got red carded last week IIRC, or was it rescinded?

The difference between two yellows and a straight red.

But you knew that anyway.

I would imagine that the straight red and two yellows would be looked at on merit, rather than having a statutory punishment attached to them?

Then you have quite an imagination.

Not really. Standard punishments are 1 game for Second Yellow or Denying Obvious Goal Scoring Opportunity, 2 games for offensive language, 3 games for Serious Foul Play, Violent Conduct as standard. Other offenses are judged on merit (spitting for example), and punishments for a straight red can be upgraded.

Second yellow is 1 game on first offence.

Works differently at grassroots, where bans are in days rather than matches.
