If it was April 1st, I'd never have believed it. That's priceless.

And there are some comedy gems in that BBC article. Here is my summary:

Newcastle have named former Wimbledon and Luton manager...
Kinnear, who has been out of work since resigning as Nottingham Forest boss in 2004...
"The fans will be disappointed, I understand that, but I can't do anything about."
The shock appointment follows news that Terry Venables turned down the role over concerns about job security.
"I will be here for 6-8 games."
...he is best remembered for his spell in charge of Wimbledon in the 1990s, leading them to sixth in the league in 1994.
Those poor, poor Geordies. Even the Beeb are taking the **** now.

I can;t help but think that there has been some wonderful game of chinese whispers which has led to this fantastic appointment.
