Japanese poetry. Each poem has to have 17 syllables. I think it doesn't matter how many lines there are, but it probably does. Anyway...

The ball is crossed
Beats the defender
Striker arrives
Its Flack
Oh sh*t

What do you expect? Its supposed to be an art form!
I'm sure you can do better...

Technically, should be 3 lines, 5-7-5 syllables (I think)

Playing at the Park
Bright start, but no early goals
Another long day

Travelling away
Banter & expectation
Late goals to cherish

Support for Tisdale
Abuse for PE teacher
Fans that are fickle

More points dropped at home
Miserable journey back
Can you face Exeweb?

I'm guessing Haiku's are a bit of an acquired taste! However, the most renowned of Haiku-ists was the Japanese poet Basho. These are translations of 2 of my favourites

Heard, not seen,
the camellia poured rainwater
when it leaned

Even in Kyoto,
how I long for Kyoto
when the cuckoo sings

(versioned...
Even at the Park
How I long for St James Park
When the Big Bank sings :D)

:D

Japanese court was known to be suspicious when he was signed up to be Haiku-ist in residence, due to his being particularly injury-prone, & liable to drop syllables at crucial compositional moments

Let me try again - with the 5-7-5 thing working. Who's this?

Grafting in midfield
Long hair flowing in the wind
Suddenly he's bald

Two mystery figures for the fickle City fan to identify.

Figure 1. Chump to champ.

"He's utter crap!" they cried.
Now, a transfer star, "he acts
While Tisdale dithers."

Figure 2. Champ to chump.

"Tactical wizard"
At Oxford in the playoffs.
Long ago, it seems.

Our brilliant former midfield, Bucks and Gilly. Top stuff greyhound. Are you, in fact, Japanese?
