Am I the only one who's getting a tad annoyed with the creeping 'text speak' being used on Exeweb recently?

OK, so perhaps I'm getting on a bit, but we're not paying by the length of the message and I, for one, find it very difficult to read!

I hate it too. Although it's easier to read text speak than anything posted by Kirton Grecian.....
Like you say, we're not paying by the letter and it just goes to show what state the schools are in this country that half the Exeweb membership can't even spell properly and have to revert to this lazy way of typing.
It is sheer idleness.

Why do we have to live with it? I believe it's in the rules not to use excessive text speak, and I agree with Gail that it's just pure laziness on the part of the author that they can't be arsed to at least attempt to write what they want to say properly.

Maybe we could have three types of forum:

1. For those that would like to speak the dear old Queen's English, with a few thee's and thou's thrown in for good measure.

2. Txt tlk 4rum 4 young 'uns.

3. One with just pictures, smells and noises for Kirton.

As you said,

excessive text speak
And I am not happy with it either, But I fear this text speak will keep creeping in with each new generation of Exewebbers.

It annoys me too. Even if someone is making a valid point I find it hard to give it the weight it deserves if I have to translate what they mean.

At 23 I must be old before my time.
