It’s been a while, for Exeter fans, but finally we get a game at St James Park (weather permitting). Saturday 23rd January was the last home game, when Accrington Stanley were the visitors and the home fans were treated to a fine 2-1 win.
Don’t forget that the kick off is an early one, at 1pm.
It’s been a difficult eight weeks for Exeter, with wins being hard to find, and a fair amount of travelling in that time. City’s last 8 game giving a sequence of LLWWWDLL which leaves them in 13th in League 2 a frustrating 8 points off a play off place, but 16 points from a relegation slot.
It’s not been a kind season for Newport County. The hapless former England captain Terry Butcher sacked after a string of poor results at the start of the season. He was replaced by John Sheridan formerly of Argyle, and he had some success with the Exiles before being poached by Oldham Athletic. Wayne Feeney is now in charge and is having a mixed bag of results. They sit in 20th place and 6 points clear of relegation.
Paul Tisdale made 6 changes for the away game against York, but with no new injury concerns, he may name an unchanged side, with the all important David Noble being a mere spectator.
Newport County have signed a new striker from St Neots, 25-year-old Tom Meechan. They have also have extended the loans of Conor Wilkinson and Mitchell Beeney.
Since returning to the Football League, we’ve met Newport County 5 times, honours all shared at P5, W1, D3 L1.
