Matt Oakley Stays for Another Season

The 37-year-old is staying for another season with the Grecians, as he pens a new one-year contract.

The midfielder played 48 times for Exeter last season, starting in 43 of those games. This will be Oakley’s 5th season as a Grecian and he’s played 118 times for Exeter.

Exeter manager Paul Tisdale said:-

Matt played more minutes than anyone else last season – for someone of his age to be able to play over 90 per cent of all the minutes in a season is quite an achievement.

It is a long season and there will be a time when there is a dip in energy – but on the whole last season he was exceptional and he brings a lot of experience and knowledge. I want to get every last drop out of him that I can!

Here’s hoping that he can have another similar season again. Whether he plays as many games or not, time will tell.
