Sercombe Departs for Oxford United

The Club has confirmed what everyone has known, and that Exeter’s midfielder Liam Sercombe has moved to League 2 Oxford United.

Liam made his debut for the Grecians in Paul Tisdale’s second season at St James park, the then 18-year-old came on as a first half substitute for Andy Taylor in the opening game of the 2007/08 season in a game that Exeter won 4-1 at Altrincham.

Despite taking up the role of attacking midfielder Sercombe only scored 23 goals in his 263 games for the Grecians. sercombe

The Exeter City statement said:-

Liam Sercombe has completed a transfer to Oxford United following the expiry of his Exeter City contract.

The announcement came on the final day of the season that the 25-year-old midfielder had elected to move to pastures new during the summer break, and the Kassam Stadium will become the next port of call for the Exeter-born man.

The midfielder made 263 appearances and scored 23 goals in all competitions for the Grecians’ first-team since graduating from the Academy in 2007. At time of leaving, he was Exeter City’s longest-serving player.

Liam departs Exeter City with the very best wishes for the future from everyone involved in the club.
