Exeter Would be Foolish to Ignore Tisdale Petition

After last week’s defeat to Mansfield Town, City sat at the bottom of the Football League and without a win this season. Out of the frustration of the position that Exeter were in, and after discussion within the tisdale_red_coatforums of exeweb.com one fan started a petition on change.org. We covered the petition at http://www.exeweb.com/2014/09/06/frustrated-exeter-fans-start-petition-for-tisdales-removal/

The Club haven’t commented on the petition, we wouldn’t have expected anything else. But plenty have. Surprisingly the local printed press have dismissed the thoughts of 400 fans in favour of one City fan that has visited their office!

Over 400 fans, most with their real names revealed, have taken to the petition and have signed and commented. A mixture of season ticket holders, ex-season ticket holders and other that go out of loyalty or have found other things to do on a Saturday. Home only fans numbers have seen a large decline since the first League 1 season:-

2009/10     5275
2010/11      4914
2011/12     4081
2012/13      3704
2013/14      3328
2014/15      2634 (so far)

That gives a year on year decline in home attendances of 6.8%, 17.0%, 9.2%, 10.2%, and 20.9%. Or look at it another way, roughly a 50% decline in 6 seasons.petition_picture_laptop

The petition has been signed, bar the odd half a dozen, by genuine Exeter City supporters. That is why the petitions needs to be taken notice of. These are not only users of exeweb.com, but other fans that have come across the petition through social media and word of mouth. Here’s some of the comments by genuine Exeter City fans:-

  • I fear for city’s future if Mr Tisdale stays as the manager as it is obvious he is out of his depth
  • If I performed this badly over the last 3 years in my job I would have been sacked by now
  • Unhappy with the standard of football being played at St James Park
  • I think his time has come. three bad years and still in charge. im a fan of 30 years. and im one that will not return to the park untill tisdale is gone for good !!
  • I believe that the financial situation, driven by poor home results, has now reached the point where Administration is imminent. If the guy had any respect for the Club he would resign immediately.
  • Season ticket holder and fed up with negative football and lack of wins. I am the chairman of a Old Grandstand Entrance on Wells Streetlocal chartered standard club and we run our club more professionally that this professional club and were volunteers
  • Paul has gone stale as with his tactics and at times puzzling team selections. it’s nice to be on the map with a long lasting manager but with the poor financial issues the club finds itself and silly rolling contract with Tis and the so negative football we have had at home for the last few years its time for a change and new direction
  • Enough is enough. As a loyal City supporter of 50 years and a Trust member, like many others, I will never forget many things under Tis. Our wins over Sheffield Wednesday, Leeds and others to name but a few. The promotions. However, the last couple of years, our performances at home have been a disgrace. I respect the efforts made by Tis and he has overseen, albeit, years ago, some great performances. Sadly, no longer. The time is now to move on and allow a new manager62exeter_city_plymouth_argyle to encourage and adopt an exciting and attacking team ethic, whilst keeping our style of passing alive.
  • Surely the time has come to remove him as manager after 3 years of poor results, especially at home, thanks for the memories, but if I messed up this badly in my job, I’d have been gone long ago, sorry Tis, thank you and good luck for the future!
  • The last three years speak for themselves inasmuch that the club continues its slide to non league football.. Also what little money the club had has been lost while under Tisdale’s control. With no sign of change of results and tactics I can no longer see myself making the trip from Swindon to watch them.
  • It is important to me as a trust member that ECFC retain football league status and do not return to the Conference. With the crop of current proven players under 21 it “beggars belief” that we should be contemplating this situation. I am very grateful for what Paul Tisdale has done but I feel that the time has now come for him to do the honourable thing and stand down.
  • Not sure who would come in, or even whether they’d be any good, but something has to change. Tisdale used to play interesting, attacking football, but now it’s just boring and crap. If we get sjp_thumbrelegated this year (even if we survive) then I really worry about the future of the club. Attendances are well down and income must be lower than anticipated. The only way to get more people through the gate is to make it fun again, and Tisdale seems to be completely ignoring that and stubbornly sticking to same tired and unsuccessful formation.
  • Paul Tisdale has had a good run but his time has run out. He’s taken us up and has brought us straight back down (We are now worse off with him).
  • He clearly acknowledges fan feedback yet decides to ignore it, or (like last Saturday) would just put his thumb up in a sarcastic gesture. Enough is enough, it’s time for a change.

The Club and Trust Board need to get fans back through the turnstiles. The announcement this week on reduced prices is welcome, but the product on sale needs to be improved and most importantly achieving wins at home.

So, do you believe our future success is based on Paul Tisdale being at the helm or that the Club needs a change. If you think the latter, then the petition can be found at https://www.change.org/p/exeter-city-club-board-remove-paul-tisdale-as-manager-of-ecfc
