The Western Times reported on Friday 30th May a signing for the Grecians:-
Exeter City’s manager, Mr George Roughton, beat a number of clubs in securing the signature of Henry Bartholomew, a 25-year-old Scottish centre-half-back, this weekend. Bartholomew made many first-team appearances in his six seasons with Motherwell and had offers to join Falkirk, St Mirren, Kilmarnock, and Shelborne. Torquay were also keen to sign him.
For information. Bartholomew played for Exeter in the 1947/48 and 1948/49 seasons before moving on to Bournemouth in August 1949. He played 71 times for the Grecians and scored 8 goals. The manager George Roughton was appointed after the war in October 1945 and stayed as the Grecian manager until March 1952 when he became the Southampton manager.
