Craig Woodman in the Football League Team of the Week

After Exeter City secured their League 2 survival with a win over previous League 2 leaders woodmanScunthorpe United, all the talk was about Craig Woodman’s wonder strike in front of the Big Bank. The Football League have rewarded him with an inclusion in the Football League team of the week. In a 4-4-2 line-up the full team is:-

  • Defender: Alex Wynter (Colchester United)
  • Defender: Scott Malone (Millwall)
  • Defender: Alan Sheehan (Notts County)
  • Defender: Craig Woodman (Exeter City)
  • Midfielder: Jeff Hendrick (Derby County)
  • Midfielder: Jay O’Shea (Chesterfield)
  • Midfielder: Lloyd Dyer (Leicester City)
  • Midfielder: Lloyd Isgrove (Peterborough United)
  • Striker: Ivan Toney (Northampton Town)
  • Striker: Hallam Hope (Bury)

With the manager being Keith Hill of Rochdale.

Woodman, aged 31, is in his 2nd season with the Grecians, and his goal was his first for the Club. He’swoodman_doherty_Sercombe played for the Grecians 89 times. His previous goal was for Brentford in October 2010 in a League 1 win over Peterborough United (Former City player Gary Alexander also scored in that win).

It’s not been an easy season for Craig Woodman. Despite playing in the majority of City’s game, he’s not been at the top of his form in a team that has struggled with poor tactics and a lack of confidence. On Saturday though in turned in an excellent performance that was capped off by a great goal.
