For the second time this season, a league 2 game at St James Park has been called off due to a waterlogged pitch. ecfc_more_postponed1Today’s postponement drawing some complaints due to the lateness of the decision by Ansy D’Urso, but that doesn’t appreciate that late this morning the pitch was playable, and only a downpour later forced the decision.

It can be appreciated that it’s a long way for Morecambe fans for a game that never happens, but “ridiculously late postponement of match” is somewhat histrionic in the circumstances.

Tisdale speaking on the official site has said:-

The pitch has become totally unplayable. There’s certain things you can control in life and others ecfc_more_postponed2you can’t.

When I arrived at St James Park at 1 o’clock, the I walked across the pitch and it was wet but perfectly playable – at that time there was not even a hint of doubt.

It’s all down to how much rain comes down in a space of time, and we’ve just had the biggest deluge you can imagine so we’ve been left with no choice whatsoever.

It’s incredibly unfortunate because we really wanted and needed the game. Theecfc_more_postponed_thumb business and the club will be affected because of turnover, cash-flow and paying wages so it’s a kick in the teeth for everyone at the club.

Apparently even Jeff Stelling got in the act “It’s nonsense to be calling games off at this stage of the proceedings”. You can read more of Jeff’s comments on the E&E website, here.

The Club will make an announcement in due course about today’s match tickets and a new date for this match.
