Gigg Lane Becomes The JD Stadium

As is the way these days, stadiums get renamed after their sponsors. Though most football fans willgigg_lane_thumb refer to a ground by its own name.  The latest is Bury FC. Feeling the pinch financially, they’ve struck a deal with JD Sports. Gigg Lane will henceforth be known as The JD Stadium. There is a connection – JD Sports were formed in 1981 in Bury.

JD Group Chief Executive, Barry Bown, said:

We are delighted to be associated with Bury Football Club and look forward to assisting the club going forward. As a company that is based locally for over 30 years, we are proud to support Bury FC and its long term goals.

This is an amazing deal for Bury Football Club and highlights the hard work being put in behind the scenes to secure the future of this great Club. Our Commercial team have worked tirelessly on this for the past few months and it is a credit to them that this deal has now been signed.

I hope our many loyal fans appreciate the progress being made to ensure financial security at the Club. This is such an exciting partnership for the club and would like to thank JD Sports Fashion PLC for their commitment to our vision, which is to take Bury Football Club back to the Championship.

Exeter City will be visiting Gigg Lane for a League 2 game on 5th April 2014. Our guide to their ground can be found here.
