2013/14 Capital One Cup: Round 2 Televised Games Previews

Sky Sports are showing 2 games from Round 2 of this season’s Capital One Cup. Liverpool host Notts County on Tuesday (27th August) and will be live on Sky Sports 1 with a 7.45pm kick off. Wednesday will see Morecambe host Newcastle United at the Globe Arena on Wednesday 28th August. That game will be shown on Sky Sports 4 with a 7.45pm kick off.

League 1 side Notts County travel to Anfield. A venue they’ve not played at since March 1992. They lost that top flight game 4-0 and were relegated that season. 20 year old Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor, on loan at Meadow Lane, has this to say on the game:-

I’ve had a few sleepless nights about it. A few weeks ago I was with Celtic not getting a game, now I’m going to play at a massive arena like Anfield.  It’s always been a dream of mine to play there. I’ve watched games from there on TV, some really big nights for Liverpool, and now there’s a big Anfield night for Notts County and I’m aiming to thoroughly enjoy it.

The boys will really be up for the game and hopefully we’ll do well. All the pressure will be on Liverpool, so we’ll be going there to give a good account of ourselves and hopefully cause a shock.

Notts County manager Chris Kiwomya will have been unhappy with his sides start to their League 1 campaign, just the 1 point so far this season. Brendan Rodgers side are 1/7 on to win this game. Liverpool will name a number of fringe players for the game. Liverpool are record winners of this competition. Brendan Rodgers said of the game:-

We will have a strong team out against Notts County. I may make one or two changes from the team that won at Aston Villa on Saturday but we will treat Notts County with the same respect as we give Manchester United. We always respect whatever opponent we play against, no matter what division they are in.

But our focus is on ourselves to get the job done and get into the next round. We want to do well in every single competition this season and so we’ll give it absolutely everything to get as far as we can.

Having hosted one St James Park outfit (Exeter) on Saturday, the other one will be there on Wednesday night in the shape of Newcastle United. Morecambe are set for a record crowd at their new Globe Arena Stadium.

Morecambe, up until recent a non league team, have never played Newcastle United. The bookies don’t favour Morecambe, and the Magpies are 4/9 for the win.

The sponsors, Capital One, have stepped in to make sure that hard-up League 2 sides will allow players to swap their shirts at the end of the game. Morecambe are one of the teams that have taken up the offer.
