This Saturday (25th August) we move on to the preliminary round of the FA Cup. £1750 is the prize for clubs for winning their tie.

The previous round saw the elimination of Ilfracombe Town, Barnstaple Town, Willand Rovers, Bridport and Elmore. So not many Devon clubs will represented in the Preliminary round. There are 166 ties coming up, the games involving Devon teams are:

  • Clevedon Town    v    Tiverton Town
  • Buckland Athletic     v    Hengrove Athletic
  • Chard Town     v    Plymouth Parkway

We could, potentially, see the First Qualifying round of the FA Cup with no Devon clubs present!

There is a televised match this weekend. ESPN have been fairly predictable in picking the Wembley FC game. The game will be on Sunday and kicks off at 2.30pm. The Budweiser circus continues with the likely appearance of Le Saux, Parlour and Keown. Uxbridge play a couple of steps higher in the pyramid, which is The Evo-Stik League Southern – Division One Central.

I’ll likely be continuing to follow Alton Town. They’ll be at Winchester City. I wonder if there will be much consternation by spectators (as in the previous round) when its announced that “Spectators are reminded that as this is the FA Cup, you are not permitted alcoholic drinks in view of the pitch”!
